Title: Champions Of Liberty Author: George Pope Morris [More Titles by Morris] The pride of all our chivalry, The young companion of his fame, Gates, in his country's quarrel bold, The drum-beat of the bannered brave, But there's a glory brighter far That such was theirs for whom we mourn,
Written, at the request of the Common Council of the city of New York, for the funeral solemnities in honor of the gallant and lamented Major-General Worth, Colonel Duncan, and Major Gates, late of the United States army. Sung by the Sacred Music Society in the balcony in front of City Hall, Thursday, November 15, 1849. [The end] GO TO TOP OF SCREEN |
