DON CARLOS. No, 't is at your service. HYPOLITO. Thank you again. Lie there, good Chrysostom, DON CARLOS. But tell me, HYPOLITO. This moment. DON CARLOS. And pray, how fares the brave Victorian? HYPOLITO. Indifferent well; that is to say, not well. DON CARLOS. And is it faring ill HYPOLITO. In his case very ill. DON CARLOS. Why so? HYPOLITO. For many reasons. First and foremost, DON CARLOS. DON CARLOS. I cannot guess; so tell me who it is. HYPOLITO. Not I. DON CARLOS. Why not? HYPOLITO. (mysteriously). Why? Because Mari Franca DON CARLOS. Jesting aside, who is it? HYPOLITO. Preciosa. DON CARLOS. Impossible! The Count of Lara tells me HYPOLITO. Did I say she was? DON CARLOS. He comes this way. HYPOLITO. It has been truly said by some wise man, (Enter VICTORIAN in front.) DON CARLOS. At your service ever. VICTORIAN. How is that young and green-eyed Gaditana DON CARLOS. Ay, soft, emerald eyes! HYPOLITO. Ay de mi! VICTORIAN. You are much to blame for letting her go back. HYPOLITO. But, speaking of green eyes, VICTORIAN. Not a whit. Why so? HYPOLITO. I think VICTORIAN. No, I am not jealous. HYPOLITO. Thou shouldst be. VICTORIAN. Why? HYPOLITO. Because thou art in love.
VICTORIAN. Indeed! HYPOLITO. He does not think so, and Don Carlos tells me VICTORIAN. How's this, Don Carlos? DON CARLOS. Some hints of it I heard from his own lips. VICTORIAN. Death and damnation! HYPOLITO. Now what a coil is here! The Avenging Child [Exeunt.] Content of ACT II: SCENE III [Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's play/drama: The Spanish Student] _ |
